thanks
Jim

There are two kinds of Australian Aros. Jardini and Leichardti. They both get to a maximum of 3 feet but most probably won't reach that size. The Jardini is supposed to be the most aggressive of arowanas. Jardini is by far the more common variety of Australian aro. Make sure the aro has a rounded tail and not a tapered tail. Much less valuable Silver and Black arowana have tapered tails.

You can definately train the aro to take pellets, crickets, shrimp, etc, and other non-live foods. I think most people here feed their aros some sort of combo of foods. Besides live food cost a lot after a while.

These guys grow fairly quickly aswell and will max out in a 6' comfortably. Do you have any idea which species the LFS is selling?

jimbo. your LFS prolly has jardini's. we rarely get leitchardii's around here. u shouldnt pay more than 100 in the interior and about 80 in the lower mainland for a 2"......

i have an aussie, 1.5 feet already. i would suggest you keep it alone in a very big tank, very aggressive. is it a leichardti (spotted) or a jardini (pearl)? mine is a jardini. if you have a choice, always pick one that has darker colors, lucky aquarists somestimes get the rare purplish or redish tinted aussies

so jimbo you ever get it

yes retail he said 80$, sounds like i might be getting it LOL, so tiny tho, gonna have to go in his own tank until he grows *wink
thanks for the info, appreciate it
