Just picked these guys up 2 weeks ago. They had ick (they got cold in truck on ride from NJ to CT) I've been keeping fish a long time and never heard of or saw these before. Please feel free to share with me your experiences with them.

Sorry about quality...still using camera for video.

I used to work at a different LFS than my current one, and there we had a group of four of these for about 6 months untill they finally sold. I had never heard of them before I saw them there either so I looked them up, theyre basically a nicely colored chanchito. Nice fish :)

I am hoping they color up nice. They had ick pretty bad. All is well now.

They Look good and will color up nicely. They are one of the most underated cichlid around and do fine in smallish tanks.

You can read old post for more info, pics, and vids.

They are the smallest of the Australoheros with the male getting to 5" and femal 3.5".

The can no longer be found in the wild so no one really knows where they come from. Brobanly southern South America as they can withstand cooler temps down to at least 60*. They dont seem to require a cooldown though.

Are are pretty gentle towards other cichlids or tankmates but dont seem to like their own kind.

They are easy to breed once a pair forms and stay very bonded. They are good parents and dont guard too much territory when breeding. They seem to like the back left or right of the tank to spawn. Mine spawned on driftwood and fake plant leaves. Nevr in a cave.

They are difficult to sex. Males are bigger and more blue spangles. Female can be darker with more pronounced stripes and more red in the tail and fins.
