Hi all,

I do large water change very often and i think i can do something else while waiting water fill up with peace of mind or prevent overflow. I am trying to improve my WC routine by adding a sensor or something automatic turn off water in my sump when it reaches to desired level. I can use float valve and set it in main tank at level below drain pipe but I want it fill up the tank and sump too. I am thinking to use springle system to do this by setting time but don't think it works because water flows/presure sometimes they're different. do you think it works if i use it with rain/weather sensor? or any better ideas??? please helps,

Thank you,

Tony

I use float valves in my sumps, the kind you buy at farm supply stores.

As long as its in the sump and stops it from overflowing, the tank won't overflow.
A word of caution, make sure you use a heavy duty tube on it, and use hose clamps to secure it.
I forgot to turn the water off, and although the float valve did its job, the tube ballooned out and split, water ran for 24 hours onto my living room floor while I was away.

Above is the one I have, in a Lowes add, but there are many kinds, from many places.
I hang the float valve in the sump, and run a line of plastic tube, or PVC to the tap.
I know the pic below looks wacky, but it works. This is on my kitchen tap, and it can fill 3 banks of tanks at once, each bank is about 300 gallons in tanks.
The Python hose you see on the top, is the one that ballooned and split.
But it was very old, I had it at least 20 years, so it was bound to pop sometime under pressure.

This product will work as well. It has a sensor to shut off a valve you place in the water line. It uses 1/4" compression fitting, same size as you would use on an ice maker type line:

I have it on my sump in case the drain line gets clogged and the sump starts filling too much from my drip.

thank you Duanes and dxdx for your helps. after look close into those ones, they runs little slow and decide to go with this one which rates 12 gallon per minute. Please let in the sump and run an outlet hose to main tank. When water fill up maintain and fall down to sump, it's will stop where your desire level. No need to watch for it while filling up. I ordered it and can't wait to try it.

don't get this wrong. it is not auto water change , it is auto shut off when filling up tanks with sump. I fill up tanks at same time and try not to flood my house . instead of sitting and waiting tanks fill up, I can do something else. with this, I can work on something else inside my house or backyard without worrying overfilled. so I still out Prime manual, turn in water valve, go somewhere couple hours and come back water turnoff. Walla!!!
