I have had my 210g running for a few days now, I'm losing 2 -3 gallons of water per day to evaporation. This does not work well for me as I'm often away from home for a few days. I'm thinking I could use a toilet valve (or similar) in my sump, hooked to my house water supply, to replenish evaporated water. I'm on a well so chlorine is not a concern. I am concerned about the valve failing and overfilling my sump. Has anybody set up anything like this?

This could also be the beginning of an auto water change system. I could put a small pump in my sump, run it to my nearest waste line, set the pump on a timer and have auto water changes:)

If you can gravity from your sump to a drain you can just put a bulkhead in your sump and use it as an overflow. I do this with a irrigation regulator set at 1 gallon an hour. It is a constant water change and any extra just drains out of the sump.
