Hey Guys!

I'll be away for 4-5 days next month for vacation and have been looking at automatic feeders. The only thing I'm worried about is most automatic feeders work with open tanks(w/o lids). I have a 180g tank but want to get an automatic feeder for my ray/aro and was thinking of attaching it to the back of the tank where there is a cover which i may need to cut to have it fit in that small opening. Does anyone have automatic feeders used with large tanks with lids?

4 or 5 days. Unless they are young juveniles they will be fine without food. Sometimes that's safer than people without experience over feeding while you're away.
I've seen many more fish perish from overfeeding on vacation than from starvation. That rarely happens.

I got the ray in December, its a marble motoro. I am suppose to get a pair of BD in about a week ish. I was under the impression that they need to eat 2-3 times a day because they are always constantly moving in search for food.

ahhh i believe my ray is about ~6 months old

I agree with Dieselhybrid. I was gone for 3 days once and my Father-in-Law insisted he'll feed while I'm gone. Big mistake.
=O

And he's still my Father-in-law
oh mannn

I would not get another 2 rays so soon before going away. If you can, wait until after your hols then don't feed the tank whilst you are away. Never a good idea getting any stock prior to leaving a tank unattended, you want to make sure any new occupants are fully settled before leaving them and that can take a few weeks.

If you're still skeptical of our advice.

Machines have rotating drums on programmable timers that drop food into the tank on schedules. This is an option.

If you have a person feed use dry food if possible. Put servings in zip locks with very specific directions written on the bags in sharpie!

But in my experience they will still find a way to overfeed and your tank will be cloudy and crashed when you return.

6 Months old? How big is the Ray? I wouldn't worry if it's healthy and with stable tankmates.

You have to remember we fast rays for 3-4 days that are younger than yours when shipping and that's the length of time you're gone basically.
