guys, i am planning an automatic fish feeder for my discus, and i want someone to tell me if i am getting a good automatic fish feeder.. anyways, i went off to ebay to search.. and here's what i found: (please click the link)

http://cgi.ebay.ca/AQUARIUM-Digital-Automatic-Fish-Food-Feeder-Timer-A_W0QQitemZ270293519308QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270293519308&_trkparms=72%3A1215|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

what do you think about that feeder? is that a good one? if it's not, can you recommend me that is better than this? i want to put a pellets on the feeder for my discus..

thanks..

personally, I wouldn't use it only because I prefer to feed why deem fit at the moment to avoid possible overfeeding from the auto feeder.

I use an auto feeder when i go on holiday because last time i went away my neighbour deided they weren't getting fed enough and decided to feed them a whole tray of frozen bloodworm. Ive never had a problem with the auto feeder and it looks similar to that one.

Auto feeders are cheap nowadays, I have several.

My advice is not to buy second hand from an unknown source as these devices are error prone. It is better to get it from an lfs because you can always return it if there is a problem....and from my own experience, auto feeders do present problems by nature of the fact that the devices are mechanical and most are made in China....

They can get fouled up by moisture...maybe get one that has a heated drum that controls the moisture in the food...
that's what i was thinking too.. but i have read in the description of the product that it is patented design for moisture proofing, mixing and crumbling food..

do you think, it should be fine to use?

I used to buy Japanese made feeders, they work perfectly. But I cannot get these anymore because they only sell China made ones in Singapore nowadays!

If they work, the pellets should be released continuously day after day and time after time. So IMO there is no worry about pellets moulding or fouling up. It's only if they stop for some reason or other....then you need to worry about replacing the pellets if they have already been compromised! But if so, you should also send the feeder back to the lfs and ask for a replacement.

i'll be using a pellets from new life spectrum for discus
Not familiar with NLS discus shape...I'm sure it is the same size through out.
Look for a feeder that controls the humidity in the food drum...otherwise they will pick up too much moisture in the food and it will clump...
