Ok, I am getting a little worried here, I got 3 pet chickens-1 rooster/2-hens, the rooster is spereated from the hens, as well as a couple of my neighbors, and friends having chickens. And this bird flu, although not the lethal one to humans, has been found in Canada. I do not eat my chickens, and I am not sure how this flu is spreading and how exactly it does, and I am getting nervous here....So if anyone can put it plan and simple, what it does and how it spreads among birds and then to humans, would be appreciated.

are you talking about END(exotic newcastle disease)?
since they can be found in poultry to, not just in parrots

I honestly wouldn't worry about your own chickens getting affected. They would only get affected if they came into direct contact with a bird that was affected. Since you don't have a huge farm and don't have chickens that your always introducing I wouldn't worry. Besides, the flu cant be spread from bird to person yet, even if you ate the bird itself.

What scientists are worried about is the flu being spread to pigs. What's pretty troubling about that is that we are very closely related to pigs and the flu would then spread easily among people. Buuuuuuuut, don't really need to worry about that

supposidly if it did get to the point of spreading to humans they are already in the process of creating a vaccine of some sort they just have a little figureing out of how it will change to do.

if you got wild birds ****ing from an overhead branch to where the chicken can step in it. . . i would be concerned.

might wanna relocate your birds to a new spot.

The only problem with the vaccine, is that this virus mutates incredibly easy. Vaccines don't ever promise anything. If it does spread to people, hundreds of thousands will die, but thats the way it works. If it does spread to people and you have a weak immune system, and your exposed, then i feel bad for you.

The worry is that someone with human winter flu will also contract avian flu, the 2 viruses will swap some genes making the avian flu easily transmitted from person to person and a pandemic will ensue.
Well, if you guys suddenly notice a drop in my posts and a caution of bid flu spreading in Mass, you know what happened to me, lol.
