Well I had a bit of a mishap with a few coosae bass that ended up with my chain pickerel eating both of them. I was rather sad as I was hoping he would leave them alone. I posted all this in the native section and someone requested a pic of his fat belly so I figured wat the heck. I haven't gotten a good measurement of him in about 6 or so months, so I went over to my friends where he is staying in his pond.
So we had the afternoon task of getting the pickerel out of a 12x12x3 pond, first we were both literally soaked, we finally said the hell with it after chasing him for about an hour outside of the pond. We were fed up and both got in to try to corner him, that worked but if you haven't ever handled a pickerel then let me tell you; they may possibly be the slimiest/sllickest fish out there. After about another 10-20 min of fooling around like this I finally got a hold of him.
At some point while trying to get him out of the pond, my friend had been bittenand was bleeding like a stuck pig from a single puncture wound. So while he was tending to that I got measurements on the fish and had my friend take a picture for me with his phone since I forgot my camera.
This is where it gets good, the fish started to flail and I thought he was going to make a break off the picnic bench that he was laying on for measurements, so I tried to grab him so he wouldn't fall to the gravel. Left hand went for the tail and the right went for the business end. BIG MISTAKE, my thumb and forefinger were in the fishes mouth, he snapped shut and thrashed harder leaving a nice 3-4 inch gash across both fingers.
So here I sit contemplating about going to get stitches, and preaching to the choir. Whod a thunk it, sharp teeth hurt.
