So i did my weekly cleaning of the grammodes tank in the 75 gallon. While cleaning before the water change i noticed the heater looked weird so it was unplugged already but still hot. After removing it from the water after cooling i noticed multiple cracks it and then it just broke in half. No big deal but ive seen what a heatr can do to a take and i didnt need that too cause my 2nd tank disaster. It was a marineland visi heater. I love the heater and i new they were a few years old since i bought them when i got my used 150 they came with. The other one i have works great and im not sure what happened but we did have to power problems a few days ago.

A good reason not to use glass heaters. Using a glass heater is like using an air driven undergravel filter:screwy: Technology now allows for a wide choice in shatterproof heaters.

I agree. I ended up replacing all of mine (worked just fine) with titanium heaters because it gave me peace of mind. They were more expensive, especially the two 1000w heaters for the pond, but at least I can go around without wondering what could happen if they shatter/malfunction... heard way too many stories about cooked fish and fire hazards. Oh and I also don't have to get wet every time I adjust the temperature because they're all controlled from outside of the aquarium.

Who sells the heaters as I will problem upgrade

yesterday I was doing a wc and other maintenance which caused me to to get out of my routine. I was just about to refill the tank and saw smoke at first I thought it was water vapor coming off the lense of my lights then I noticed smoke in the tank. Turns out I forgot to unplug my 500w titanium heater and it melted the heater guard in half. Didn't shatter but since it was supposed to shut off when out of water im going to make them replace it since its under warranty.

Just looked into cascade heaters and they have great reviews and $20 for a 300 watt heater is a sick deal. The cascade items are great as I have a cascade 1000 canister filter and my friend hellman has there HOB filter and says it's better than the emp400
