So i was driving by and this guy had a bunch of crap out on his parking lot. i saw what appeared to be a biocube. so we went back and for $15 after a haggle we walked away with a new nano cube with reed lights and all :headbang. its a 12g i believe. i filled it and its working perfect. has reef lighting. my only issue is im not sure what media this thing uses. do any of u have this particular tank? i know what it should use as per downloaded manual but what do u guys use for media in these things. stocking ideas are also welcome :) pictures of ur nano cube setups a plus :)

Depends. On my BC8 I don't use anything, just CPE from time to time. It's a "nano reef", freshwater seems boring in such a small tank.

I put the black sponge in one section. and in the second i put activated carbon bag the little ceramic rings bag and i still have space left. i was thinking bio balls since this thing apprently works like a sump or overflow ssytem. i have one problem though this tank now reaks like chlorine. i think theybleached it. now im worried :/ would prime be enough to remove any chlorine left over? also i figured sw might be difficult be cause water changes in its current location would be extremely hard. dont have space to lift a gas container. fw would be boring though lol i just dont know! :nilly:

Saltwater isn't nearly as hard as I thought it was gonna be, especially now that it's an established system. I do water changes strictly for trace element renewal, the system runs zero ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate all the time.

If you go saltwater scrap all the stuff in the back chambers, especially the rings and sponges. All they're gonna do is trap waste and cause nitrates to skyrocket.

Good luck with it and keep it updated!

So pardon for sounding stupid, but if i dont put anything in the chambers theres no bacteria colony? so what i just add live rock and sand? this is a nano cube not a bio cube does that matter? so i just leave them compltely empty with just the pump it came with running? i find it funny how this nano cube is blowing my mind but ive set up larger complicated reefs before with ease. oh and the lights it came with is a two tube half 10000k half actinic 24watt compact light as i discovered last night.

Really shouldn't matter, the general concept is the same between the different brands AFAIK. In a system this small your live rock, and to a lesser extent your live sand, will be your biological filtration.

I really want to get a inTank Medai basket and a fuge light to grow some chaeto in the middle chamber, I scraped all the paint off the back already. Next project.

are these lights good enough for any coral. its roughly about 3 wpg 50/50 bulbs.
