Awesome Lizard... anyone keeping one?

Scheltopusik... such an awesome creature. The Staten Island Zoo has one, is looks like a Glass Lizard on steroides. Some of them look like Snakes with semi-human heads, IE

Thats amazing a snake with a lizards head, i have seen legless lizards before but not that big.

They're legless lizards, not snakes. I was looking into getting some a little while ago, would still be interested in getting a pair if the chance comes up. I think the biggest problem with getting them is just that - finding ones for sale.

I see Russian Glass Lizards for sale at reptile shows quite a bit.

exactly. I looked into them for some time, I think it was the tail being so fragile and the space they need or something that changed my mind, been a while. Awesome animal though.

Yes, and they show up in the kingsnake classifieds now and then. I haven't seen the name "sheltopusik" in anything but older herp books, you'd want to search giant glass lizard, Russian, or European.

I've heard they get pretty tame...as I recally they're pretty closely related to our native glass lizards and alligator lizards.
