For Christmas my dad surprised me by making me not one but 2 HUGE cages. I was very excited. Dimensions of each cage are 8'x3'x2'. I was just discussing the idea with him the other day and then today when it came time to open presents that's what I had to open. I'm very excited :) I will post some pics after I get them here (AKA get some manpower to lift these beasts).

I was extremely happy and surprised. My dad and I were just discussing it because I had asked him if it would be extremely hard for him to do and then I go over there today and yeah. I can't be happier with it really. I just wanted one and he made two :) An excuse to get another animal and after I get everything all set up I can finally start looking for a dumeril's monitor.

Sounds pretty awesome, do try to put some pics up.

I won't have pics for a while - he still has to attach the doors, seal it, and paint the outsides :)

Last Christmas I started to build a 10x2x3ft enclosure for a bosc monitor. I had it running by April, but a year on, I still need to finish making one of the doors, and make the outside look presentable! It sounds like your dad sure knows what he's doing to get it all done so quick!

Do you have the monitor already, or is that something you plan to get? Unfortunately my bosc didn't thrive, so my big custom enclosure became a home for two wood turtles, but I really do love monitors, I'd love to see some pics if you already have him :)

Best,
Paul

I understand how that goes Paul. I have four 4'x2'x2' that I need to make look presentable, though they are fully functioning. However, they are for bearded dragons, not monitors of course.

My dad is very good at building things, as is my grandfather. They were in construction for a very long time so that may have something to do with it. Wednesday I'm supposed to go over to seal and paint them and maybe sometime in the following week they will actually be in my house :)

I had a Dumeril's monitor at one point. Unfortunately, he passed. I have no idea why. We had him for about 2 weeks and one day I went into the reptile room and he was gone. I'm going to wait until everything is set and ready to go before I get the new one. Also, sometimes they can be a bit of a pain to find so it might take a while to actually find one that I am satisfied with.

Any suggestions for the other cage though? I have two of these beasts.

I was actually joking with the hubby about how hilarious it would be to fill up the second with leopard geckos. He looked at me like I've gone crazy. If nothing else I might give it to the boa when she gets a bit bigger.

Edit: Apparently my sister snapped a pic of us getting it. The back side is facing the camera.
