so im in my lfs, strolling down the tank line up. nothing special. then i get to the last tank, and this little 6-7" SA lung is staring at me, dark, mudddy brown body, with little gold covered spots around its head. i was happy because i hadnever seen one in person. the price made me jump though, $25!!! i know that later he will need a larger tank than my 55, but i am curious to how far off that will be, because i got a couple ressumes floating around, and its not long till i get a job:). also, i am wondering about the care of them. i don't think he can go with my rd, sbut there is a 45 long i can easily free up for him, or a 10gal, with 2 55G filters, for its first couple of weeks with me (i did that to see how it would affect groth rate. i am testing it out with 3 small convicts). if i let this guy pass, then they said they can get another at the same price, from the shippers, but u guys know how some fish are avalible one month gone the next. just want to know the growth rate, care tips and whatnot for a baby lung. also, about there acceptible water quality. not that i don't try to keep good water, i just have box filters for now. cant get canisters/good stuff yet. i can't keep a lung, if they drop dead the second the water isn't 100% Perfect.

i can keep up with 1" a month. i have a 10G tank, with 2 55 gallon box filters hooked up to it, i will put it there for the first couple weeks. they are keeping it in a brackish tank, witch i don't think is a good idea. it seemed kind of lazy, but then again its not a fish known for its activity. i just don't want to stress it, by taking it from a brackish tank, and put it in my 45 long with old water, that is slightly below fine and dandy. i only have box filters. so i will put it in my overfiltered 10, till it looks good, and eats well. luckily for me, this isn't the kind of fish that will drop dead as soon as it isn't 100%. what foods can i feed it to make it healthy, but not the perfect growth promoter, so i have some time to get the cash, and locate the big tank.
i want this fish to be a good centerpiece but i don't want it to be the only fish in the tank. whats exceptable tankmates

Go and get it then LOL.

hey what tank sizes are considered suitable depending on his sizes? what can go with him at those sizes?

ok, well, if he is going to need a largre tank in the future, what size are we talking? what fish too? i mean large cool ones that will not cost too much (u be the judge of what is inexpensive) like things i could not keep in your everyday 55. Could an electric catfish go with it (provided, that the lung is much larger, but the catfish is not bite sized)?
arowanas?
gars?
interesting cats (name em)? rtc, irwinis, ripsaws esp.
knifes?
puffers?
rays?
others?
also i would like to thank bruce. u have been very helpful.

I would say a 180 would be good for a few years, but i wouldn't mix it with an E cat ive got both a lung and a E cat but i don't want to risk it. But everyhting else on your list should be fine.

i could Put rays and puffers with it? thats good. could i do like a fahaka puffer?
