My Oscar has HITH. I've had him for 3 1/2 years with perfect skin, no hith, no sickness.

I noticed a hole in the middle of his forhead.

I'm just venting mostly.

I do weekly water changes, alternating cleaning my filters.
I feed a good diet. Hikari with vita-chem and krill.

So now, i've:
-added a grounding probe since i found 7 V of stray current in the tank. Its now at only 3 millivolts. So thats taken care of.
-ordered crickets,superworms,caterpillars and spirulina pellets
-ordered Metronidazole
-took out all the large rocks in the tank to eliminate any pockets of anaerobic bacteria
-and i'm stepping up my water changes.

This better go away. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :irked:

good luck with that...I've dealt with it before with a chocolate cichlid and it was a pita. used metro and it seemed to stop the progression...there were no clear reasons why it could've developed other than possible stress from tankmates

thanks.

yeah, i have no idea what started it. Freakin oscars. lol

don't worry about it.
pretty common thing at an older age.
i've never seen a really old oscar with out a bit of a whole.
as long as his head isn'tl ike melting away i wouldn't worry about it lol.

Kudos on the Spirulina Pellets. that will greatly help. Also, get some live nightcrawlers for him too.

Just out of interest do you use carbon in your filters?
