hi
as i said in one of my other posts that i orderd a 8ftx1ftx1ft aquarium it would hold nearly 50g of water well i contacted a local aquarium shop and asked them how much it would cost the shops called maiden head they said in normal glass with no equipment just the bare tank it would cost 400 pound so after that i walked out and contacted a glass company they said they could get me all the glass in 4mm for 60 pound but then i thought 4mm for 50g of water shorely i need thicker glass but then its only 12" high so maby 4mm would do so i got onto aqa tools and typed the dimensions in cm and the results where 4mm can this really be true

heres the results

Why 8'x1'x1'? Just go with like, a 55. You can get one for around 50 dollars easily. Or just get something like a 125. The dimensions of that tank are ridiculous and wont let you do much in it.

Completely agreed, just trying to help him with what he wants though.

4mm is about .159 inches, or around 5/32 inches thick. That does seem a little thin, I would think that 3/8ths would be the thinest you would want to go, which is roughly 9.41mm. That is also assuming you have upper and lower bracing with straps.

Just my two cents.

i actually could have a rather large reef safe community made up of small fish like gobies, damsiles but its actually not ridiculos as the main aim for this tank is a fowlre and we dont all have ridiculosly long arms and its much easyer with just a 1ft depth and a 1ft hight any way its also because its on the top floor of the house and eventually their will be 3 on a rack one on top of each other and i dont want to push it will water weight so what dom yous think of the 4mm glass thickness i also thought it was very thin but just type in 240, 30, 30 and youl see the results

Its about 60g.

That being said I think this could make a really sweet reef. Its shallow enough to easily light it however you want it, for whatever you want.

Just make sure that he gets all small rock or rubble, otherwise you will end up having a rock tank.

but tbh im in the uk and your lucky to find a 55g for 125 pound so when it comes to it im not paying any more as im making it my self everything seems so much cheaper in the us especially aquatic stuff :headbang2 well do you think its poss to do it in 4mm as the results say 4mm but im not shore like is the glass thickness calcalator in the aquarium tools site acurate because it says for a 48"x12"x18" needs 2mm glass :irked:
