axolotl help

my new axolotl (about 3 1/2 in) that i got yesterday is doing that float at surface thing

and his gills look small????

he wont get a filter till tomorow as im going back up to my college appt



will he be okay??

No animal should be left unattended. I've heard horror stories. Thats all I'm saying. Not for more than a day anyway.

it sounds like hes stressed out lower the water so that his legs touch the bottom they dont like being on top this will calm him down a bit just keep him very kool and see if you can get him to eat try chopped up worms hope this helps or Caudata.org

do you have any plants or hides in the tank? axolotls love having omething to hang around on or in, most people would say they actually dont need filters with good water changes. if hes eating i would wait and see. axies dont even really like high current of filters. put plants or something for him to hang out on.
