I got this black and white jag about a week ago from Rapps. 4", I asked for a male but looks like a female to me but I've heard it can be hard to tell at this age. Please share you opinions. I'm not interested in breeding, I want a large display fish so I'm hoping for a male. It just started showing a lot of blue in the fins the past few days, in the next week I'm going to change the black sand out to PFS.

Taken yesterday, no flash - tank lights only

Lights just came on and a lot of purple and gold in the body

NIce lookin jag. I have no clue:)lol im in the same boat so ill follow your thread. cheers to bein male.

If I'm not mistaken -when the Jags mature the males will loose the large spots along the lateral line, the females will not @ 4" I can't sex it. BTW - beautiful fish, also saw pics of your Titanium, was tempted to get one myself at That Fish but $100 seemed kinda salty..................hope a more experienced mfker can sex it for ya.

Mojo, how can you sex a jag that small?!! I'm convinced your a "Managuense whisperer"

If I had to guess I would say female, but mojo knows more than I do thats for sure! In my opinion that fish, were it truly 4" would be easily ided.

im not good at sexing, but i got a 4 incher i just posted too. everyone told me that they thought female but u really have to wait till it gets a little bigger. a bunch of people told me they thought theirs were female at first but turned out male when it got to around 5 or 6 inches. great looking jag though, its gonna be nice as hell when it grows.
