So a pair of my RD's bred about a month ago. I moved the fry to a breeding fine mesh container that hangs on the side of the tank until I could get a 3rd tank set up for them. Looks like overnight, someone attacked the net and ripped a small hole in the corner to which all the fry escaped and were eaten.

Now the same pair has bred again. My 3rd tank is set up already (I was more on the ball this time) and are fry are starting to swim all over the place.

Anyone know an easy way to collect them. It was so hard to get them out of the tank last time because they all swim down and hide in the small rocks.
I tried a syphon but I didnt get enough suction power and it really didnt pull them out.

Any ideas? Bye the way, my Jag's have bred as well and the eggs are just starting to drop. I'm finally seeing the wiggles of little eggs with tails.

Really can't help you with this, but I just wanted to say ... thats why I use the breeding box instead of the mesh... I have always just used nets to catch fry as well. but I don't have gravel in my tanks...only in one and it's not a "breeding" tank the rest are all Sand so I really don't have your problem... Good luck with it though.

try the gravel syphon without the plastic end on, syphoning with just the pipe will have much more suction

I removed the plastic end from the syphon and it worked great...some of them scattered and were eaten by others but I believe I was able to get about 99% of the fry out of the big tank and into a seperate one.....now once my jag fry are bigger, ill use the same method and transfer them to the same tank.....lots of babies to watch grow up....

Lots of fun... Seems like my Son's Display tank with his Mickey mouse Platy's and Fancies are about to explode again ....I just took out one set of Fry (guppies) and looks like I'll have 2 platies going within the week and another Guppy sometime very soon as well... looks to me like maybe a week to week and a half at most... Oh well sell some on Craigslist and feed the rest to my Cats LOL... (Livebearers suck!!!) seems like all I do it raise these things ...Worse than rabbits .... Good luck with your Fry :D prob more fun than my current groups :irked:

That's exactly how I've been snagging my guppy fry. With no plastic end the suction power is much greater
