Are they about to have babies? They are shaking and digging. They won't even let my flowerhorn come by them they are nuts. What steps do I take if I am expecting babies?
Here they are

Just watch. It's cool huh?

Haha love seeing convicts getting ready to spawn, makes me miss my pair I had 10 years ago. I don't miss they're super psyco aggression whilst they are breeding and guarding though lol. Be prepared for your pair to own that tank and force everything else into a corner as mine used too. They will get even worse once fry a free swimming. Def pound for pound one of the toughest. Hopefully you have some good fry hunters in the tank lol, but I suppose once all fry are picked off they just start spawning again straight away. Good luck with em lol

Well they look male and female so yes, they are about to have babies.
And should always be expecting fry from this point forward.
Expect them to harass the life out of the flower horn once they have eggs.

Yes, they are ready to spawn......and what a lovely sight to see.
2 things you can do here depending on choice and options available.
1) Move the convicts pair to a spare tank if you have any or the other occupants to the extra tank.
2) Post the spawn , after the Fry's are free swimming, move the Fry's to the independent tank.

BTW , other than the FH and convicts pair , what are the other inmates....

If you don't want them to kill that what looks like a african cichlid remove it asap.

I'm not sure, the flowerhorn has killed two previous fish kept with him ( some dithers cichlids I had) for my motaguense ( so he wouldn't be chased) when his tank was being set up. I was going to rehome them but I turned lights on yesterday and two mangled fish were st the bottom. I didn't think he was going to snap quite yet. But I think there is a good chance the convicts will piss him off. But, I think the stripes are more than we think. He seems confused and attacks back at nothing when they go after him. I think the flurry of stripes confuses other fish, anyways I do have a divider! I'll have to buy a 10 gal don't have a fry tank

I personally wouldnt set up a fry tank unless you intend on feeding the fry to something. You'll quickly learn that convicts are the definition of prolific.
