I just checked my tank and found 8 black molly babies in the tank. I am currently medicating the tank for ick. I have the temperature raising. My question is will the babies be safe in there while it is treated for ick? They are pretty big and seem okay right now. The others don't seem to be bothering them, and I hate to transfer them to another tank. I have a 2 gallon, but it doesn't have a filter, and the temp in that tank would have to be at 76 because that heater is adjustable. There are 2 mollies that really have ick, so I have to treat the tank. I am adding salt to the water after daily changes of 50% of the water, but only put in half the dose because of the catfish.

I just changed part of the water and added some full plants to give the babies cover. I noticed the mom was chasing one of them. They also have a little castle that has holes in it where they can hide inside, and plenty of plants now. I did another treatment of aquarisol just now at half the dose until I am sure if they will be able to tolerate it.
the babies should be fine, but if your only half dosing, like humans taking antibiotics, not sure your taking care of the problem.....?
salt and heat are the best cures for ich. Mollies are brackish anyway, so salt will not be a problem, and you already have the temp raised. Why spend money on an ich "cure" when you can do it better, cheaper and safer with salt and heat?
Even with cover, those babies don't stand much of a chance against the adults. I decided to let nature take it's course with my medium planted 28 gallon. Out of 7-8 batches of fry, only two ever survived the parents. If you really want them to survive, get a fry tank that hangs inside the parents tank. Most will even take flake food hours from birth (grind it to dust).
As far as the meds, can't rightly say. After 12+ years of multiple running aquariums, I have never had an outbreak. I very rarely ever add new inhabitants though and only after isolation.

I added a little fry tank...the kind you see at the store where they put the fish bags in. Isn't perfect, but it is working fine. There are 15 little guys in there. All black, except one that is pure silver. I will have to watch to see if she is still popping.
