I searched and found no definite "yes" or "no" as to whether or not this is normal behavior.
So I'm consulting the experts.
I went to admire his magnificence and didn't see him at the top water level, where he normally is.
He was sitting at the bottom in a corner just chillin..
He's about 5-6 inches, tested water perams which are ok.

Water level is low enough so that water from the filter makes a... pouring/rushing/dripping sound.
Could that noise be irritating to the aro?
Thanks for your time. :)

Not normal behavior, signs of a stressed fish. How long have you had the arowana?

The top water needs to be still for a baby aro, The noise and ripples freak them out

agreed, too much current on the surface. My understanding is they sleep on the surface, so if theres too much flow juvies cant sleep. resulting in stress then they sleep on the base.

Update: he is now swimming... into the side of the tank.
Looks like he's biting at nothing. And losing color in his scales.
I've had him since 1/21/13
He seemed fine until this morning.
Been feeding him pellets, flakes, tilapia fillete.
I'll reduce the current in the water and see if it helps.
:(:(:(
