I've been looking into starting an Arowana tank and have a hook up at a LFS. They just got in some small Silver Aros and he said that he can give me them for 10 bucks each! I just want to know what size tank I could use to start the grow out process. The Aros are about 3.5-4" Long. Suggestions? Keep in mind eventually they will be going in a much larger tank.

try to start them in the biggest tank possible. but if its for growout purpose only, i'd have to say something along the lines of a 60long, or 100gal, but of course you'd have to have a bigger tank lined up asap as they do grow fast. don't keep puttin it off sayin you'll upgrade when he's a lil bigger. or try to think he looks like hes doing okay in the small tank. aro's need the larger tank for many reasons.
I like the 55, but they'll grow really fast. I've had mine for under 4mos from a 6 " baby and he's 13.5" and I just got a 150, mandatory. I figure the 150 can get me thru until next spring and then I'm going for huge.
As tanks get bigger, filtration costs more, the floor has to hold the weight and the tank needs to be LEVEL, so there's a lot of hidden costs.
Go for it! They are wonderful, fun, fantasic. You'd love an Aro, once hooked it's for life.
They are aggressive and eat most tankmates, they will grow out to 3-4 ft if conditions allow in captivity. They jump and spook and are famous for jumping out of tanks straight thru weighted lids. Aro's have a lot a accidents, but they are regal and beautiful and amazing to watch.

wow Meiling!! The poetry! Wonder if the other people write about their fish as we about the aro's? I would say we are a notch crazier...and the aros a notch above all others..
got mine last feburary at 3-3.5", he spent 6 months in a 55 with my discus. At 8.5" he was moved to a 75g where he grew to 14". I moved him last week to a 120g. He'll hang out there until mid summer then he'll get a 240 gallon.

Thanks for all the helpful information guys. Do you think I would be able to keep one in a 75 with my PBass at a certain size?
Will they fit in the pbass mouth?? They both Grow around the same rate.. The Arows should keep up after they start eating well...
