Well, count me in among the group of people who managed to not cover their tanks and lost an arowana.
My main tank is well covered and I have full confidence in it. My three blacks aren't going anywhere. But I had a baby silver growing out in a 110 acrylic with my SA cichlids and I assumed that the large gap between water level and tank top was sufficient (I don't use the overflow so the water level is lower than usual).
I actually fell asleep on the couch last night with the TV on and I wonder if I freaked him out or something. I heard some splashing while I was still awake - assumed that the dark room with the flickering TV light was spooking them - but every time I checked he was there. I guess after I fell asleep he managed to leap out diagonally and fall down below. Poor guy wriggled his way all the way up to the front of the stand. If he had jumped out the other direction he probably would've ended up in the hospital tank.
So... just in case some of you thought they didn't (like me)... babies can jump too.
