Hi all-
I have a baby silver arowana (maybe 4.5 inches or so, on a good day) His name is Noodle. WELL. I've got drift wood with plenty of fun places to hide, and plants on the bottom, all that jazz. But thats not doing him any good because he likes to be at the top of the tank (obviously) So I have some baby tears floating in the top of the tank. A little knot of baby tears, and He likes to hide behind those, and/or in the darkest corner of the tank. So my question is, is there somewhere/something I can get him to hide in that maybe floats? or why is he hiding in the dark to begin with. is that okay or is my noodle sad?

Side question- Any idea how to sex an aro? His name is actually Aristotle. But I call him noodle. And if he is actually a She, I might have to rethink that Aristotle thing.

Floating plants like water sprite will be ideal! It gets nice long roots like this on the right side:IMG_20180308_193243.jpg

If you don't remove it then you'll have plenty of hiding space, can almost watch it grow in real time :)

Any hiding space in the bottom of tank is of no use for Arowanas, they are always on top, unless they are not doing well. Like mentioned above, some floating plants may help, even some artificial ones.

When I got my Asian Arowana, he was around 9 inches, for the first few weeks he would always stand in the backside top corner of the tank, not much swimming around.

Now I don't see him staying at one place at all, he is always on patrol, going around every inch of the tank.

No way to sex an aro with any accuracy. As far as hiding, it's really best to just keep the tank open. As an aro hets older, it will get more comfortable and actually use all the open space in the tank (including lower portions of the tank). Baby aros are always skittish and try to hide instinctively.
