my new arowana (5") who has only been in my tank for about 4 days now is still pretty skittish. is it normal for smaller aro's to seem skittish and weird when people including me still approach the tank. when im lying down in bed and not moving too much he seems fine .. skimming along the top of the water but when i stand up/approach closer to the tank at all he starts darting around the tank to whatever side im not closer to and sometimes rapidly keeps trying to jump. ive been trying to leave him alone as much as possible but still need to feed the bichirs etc. the seond day i got him he was eating flakes .. the pellets i had werent floating so by the time he calms down they are already on the bottom of the tank so i threw in some pellets that would stay on top longer and when he almed down he started eating them (eating certain ones and spitting others out?) he doesnt seem to be doing too bad in there .. with a 30" height so far it barely seems like the aro and bichirs know each other exist. so is this behaviour from the aro normal and how long will it generally take for him to calm down?

when young they are jumpy, but it wont take to long and it will come running for food when you walk to the tank...my little one that is a few weeks old already comes running from its hiding spot when it sees the top open and eats from my fingers...

alright cool. just in all the pis and videos etc ive seen they seem to be just relaxed and ok with everything. never seen any that started darting all over the tank and get so startled whenever something is moving in the room so wanted to make sure it was normal

Takes some time for arowana to get comfortable in the new tank. In the meantime you can add some floating plants to give it added feeling of security.

Mine was the exact same.. ive had mine for about 2 weeks now and hes just starting to settle in ... just be patient.. trust it will be FINE :)

Yea I got one today and it does the same thing as urs, but as w/ my other silver aro it will eventually calm down.

My arows used to do that to. It took them quite some time to get used to the tank, even more so when i had other fish in with them. He ll be ok over time.GL with ur new fish

Yeah, they'll do that. Floating hyacynth or water lettuce will make him feel comfortable when small. He'll come to recognize you soon enough and eat like a beast.
