How long can I keep a baby silver arowana in a 75g tank if i feed him rosy reds, pellets and froken krill? I'd buy him at around 2-3 inches. Feeders would be once a week. And as soon as I could get him onto krill that would be everyday. How long would I have? Thanks, Andrew

Well I just rehomed my Silver which is 14" and was in a 75 gallon tank. I've had him one year and one week, when I got him he was 3-3.5 inches. He could've stayed in that 75 for a little longer if needed, up to 16".

I beleive the growth rate for my aro was a little slow though 11" in 12 months. I have heard of aros growing as much as 2" a month but I don't know if this was steady for any length of time. But you could have a 16" aro in as little as 7 months if ya start at 2" I guess.

So, I would say at best you would have one year. In 9 months you better have the other tank in sight though.

Also I do feed my aro live fish, they are convict cichlids that I breed. I would stay away from live foods. They are not very healthy and have a high possiblity of disease.

thanks. Im glad you told me

while we are on the topics of arowana's and tanks. i am planning on getting a 125 gallon, can anyone shed some insight as too how long i will be able to house him in this before i may need to move up in aquarium? what size would you guys recommend for a tank for the final home for a silver arowana?

Depends on the dimension of the tank. I think a standard 125g is 20" wide. So you can probably keep it inthere until it hits 18"

The thing with aros is that they may fit for now but they get big pretty fast ! Make sure you are ready to swap tanks pretty quick! The 125 should hold it pretty easy for a good year at least , as for the final tank size... you will get different opinions on that one, just make sure that it will be able to turn around EASILY at max size !

4x2x2 tank is your best bet. silvers get very large and needs a wide tank to be able to turn comfortably. actually 4x2x2 is the min. you should get for any arowanas.

i dissagree with you. this aint prison. 4ft long? eventually the aro will be about that long or only 12" shy of that long. atleast provide an 8x2x2 but if possible 3ft wide or more is best.
