I was gonna have members guess the species, but as I hadn't cleaned the glass before taking this, I'll just tell you what I bought, lol.

I saw a trio of Ornates at my favorite LFS and they were small enough to be priced within my budget. $19 - disscounted also 'cause I donated a very agro Red Texas. These guys are tiny, ~2" and still have external gills. I had him in with my bigger Poly's, but since he is so small I have since moved the little one to a calm planted 29 with a gourami that has seen better days... He's so small that I have a hard time finding him in his cave...

More pics to come!

Very nice ornate. Looking forward to more pics! :D

Nice! I've had an interesting experience when raising Ornates...have fun!

Cute little ornate

My first bichir was an ornate :D

Congrats, what have your or what are you planning on feeding him?

ornate is one of the most beautiful bichirs due to its lively patters and bright color, although there are some variants that are washout dark.

I personally prefer the once with bright yellow, they are usually CB, i havent seen one sold that are WC in my area.

Haha quite obvious its an ornate even with the dirty glass :D

They are the only real black bichirs! [Excluding blind and melanistic]

Crush up Massivores and little pieces of tilapia filet that I feed my other fish. gonna float somebloodworms for him now...

Thanks all for the kind words. I have had an ornate before, but it tragically got stuck in an ornament and died. :( I have learned since then and now any oraface is stuffed with polymatting before entering my tanks! Thi slittle guy is content in his rock cave and there is plenty of natural vegetation in there to hide in.
