IN YOUR HEAD
my baby black that i have had since last tues is already taking pellets like it has been eatting them its whole life...they are the 'new life spectrum' pellets witch i have found to be more difficult to get aros to eat...i have my 4" silvers on them and the pellets slip past the divider and the black just started taking them...i never starve any fish and it was eatting frozen blood worms before it took the pellets...has anyone else seen that blacks have been the easyest to pellet train? all my jars were on pellets within 3 weeks or less, but not less then a week...they were feeding the blacks at the lfs glass worms...

IME: my silver and jar were really easy to get on pellets, my silver ate cichlid gold two days after being in the tank and then now my jar ate massivore the first day in the tank :D

but congrats on your black aro

All baby black aros that I've had were tremendous eaters. They all readily accepted pellets, though I did not usually offer pellets until they were 3.5" or so.

you guys are lucky mine still wont take pellets although i only starved him for 3 weeks at the most before giving in. i made the mistake of picking the smallest in the group. he's on mealworms only and will only eat off the surface, he wont even take crickets anymore. also, he's so skittish that i cant even be next to the tank otherwise he wont even eat. i have to walk away to the side to watch him. he's grown from 6-7in to about 12-13 since mid january

this one is 4.5-5" or so...it is kinda crazy cause they are timid and not to agressive... yet they readily accept pellets and other types of 'training required' foods...

you shouldn't have to starve your fish...just give it time and work with it, it will come around...at that size and time frame though it should be more relaxed...what size tank is it in as you may need to rethink its current housing...

he's in a 150 for now and only stays on the left half of the tank where there's less flow. water goes into the tank on the right side flowing in 1 direction. he was in a 60g for about a month before i moved him and he was actually taking mealworms as soon as it hit the water and sometimes from my hand.

you may have to much flow...try to block it/redirect it so the aro isn't over taken by it...i also noticed that my mid sized aros still like some top cover try adding some and it should calm down...

that was what i thought while i was starving my 19" jar for almost a month the third time. he refused to eat sticks, only chewed and spit out. i did not give in that time until he tried to eat the thermometer and cut himself on the mouth. that was when i gave in AGAIN after a month. now i'm stuffing the sticks in his raw foods which seems to work best.

i have not starved any of my fish and all my aros eat pellets, my pbass are off live food and my gar is off live to give examples...all my fish get feeder fish in their diet they mainly eat shrimp, pellets and tillapia

Wish I had a black

just get the proper size tank and if you are willing to pay you can get one...
