Baby Caribe

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I might just have to get back in the piranha game .......i told myself baby caribe shoal would be the only way i would keep piranhas lol

Trick is to raise them seperate until they are aroumd 4 inches to help minmize canabalism since baby caribe are notorious at killing each other.....ive heard of people getting 8-10 and ending up with 3 in a matter of a month.

I realize its hard to seperate when most people are getting 8-12 babies.....easiest way i have done it is divide your tank into how many piranhas you are getting.....so example i would personally start with 12 for a 180....and sell half off by adulthood. 180 is 6x2......divide that into 12 and get 12 containers that will evenly fill the 180 gallon up...dollar store cost me about $24..for all 12 ...make sure they have decent height.......then drill them all add a little gravel/sand to help stabalize......fill the tank up to almost the top of the containers leaving at least a 1-2 inch lip of the container and add the caribe in seperate containers.........this only works with canister filters since hob have a hard time with half filled tanks.

Cost is around $24 .....which is the cost of 1 baby caribe.....its better to spend $24 on containers then loosing over half of what you spend on baby caribes.

Hi,

I don't agree...
I had 25 baby cariba 1" long and I lost none of them... They were 8" when I sold 15.
If properly fed and housed, there's no more cannibalism than with nattereri or piraya.

Bye.

If you say so hahah

And yes caribe are more canabalistic and more aggressive then reds .....anyone that knows anything about piranhas knows this.....

Also feeding isnt always the issue with canabalism......territory and aggression is what is usually the cause in canabalism with piranhas but im sure you would know that since you had 25 baby caribe.....have any pics of all 25?......doubt it

BYE!
