Sorry for your loss. Temperature is a little high, but not enormously so, they can take up to 29C without difficulty. If there was no sign of external trauma via fighting etc, perhaps an internal bacterial infection? This would typically be preceded by a period of atypical behaviour, being lethargic etc and either not eating or not eating with vigour and in the normal quantity and/or unusual faeces.
