I am about to get my first Clown Knife. Now I am guessing that from the pet shop they are going to be around 3-4". I am curious as to what would be good food for the little guy? I am going to breed convicts for feeders but of course that is not going to be their staple diet. I wasnt sure if I should start them off on something and then as they grow maybe work them into something else.

It'll definitely eat the Convict fry. Small CKs love frozen bloodworms. It'll grow quick with frozen BW and the Convict fry. You can give a staple of Cichlid Pellets. Mix it up and give it some cut shrimp with shells and cut fish as well.
I started mine off with con fry, then went to broken up hikari sinking canivore pellets, then went to shrimp, earth worms and carni pellets
Bloodworms, Fry, Earthworms...BAM theres ur answer...Mine Tripled in size in a month due to all the crawlers he eats!
My CK seems to like frosen brine shrimp but his mouth is so big for these little chunks! I'm looking into more consistant food.
