about three weeks ago, i went down to my local river in search of crayfish. i wanted a huge one, but i didnt find anything! as i was giving up hope, i poked a stick around a rock and out pops a tiny cray, like a shrimp kicking its tail. i took him home, quarantined him for a week, and now he has been in my 10g will my blugill and tetras for 2 weeks. (later on i went down the the same river, lifted a huge rock and a three inch long cray swam out, but as they are slower when they are bigger, i easily caught him. sadly he died after about a week from a fungal infection that i have found at least ten dead crays in the shallow water from. RIP) i just got home and i havent seen my cray out in a while, so i lifted up the structure which he hides under, and i see his molt and him, about 2 or 3 millimeters larger! i tried to get pics but he's still too small to take pics of unless i take him out of the water an he also blends in really well in the gravel with his new shell :)

My smallest crayfish, has molted twice since the first of the year...he's 4"-4.5" now not including his antena.
I save his body molt and let him feed on the rest, it's supposed to be good protein for their growth.
Ain't it cool how they can get out of their shell with it still intact?

yeah it was really exciting to lift up the rock and see him and his molt for the first time!

my crayfish hasn't molted yet but my crickets molt like crazy do crayfish turn white like crickets when they are about to molt? sorry nooby question lol

actually i dont think thats a nooby question at all. i dont know because mine hid under a rock 24/7. whenever he came out to eat, his shell was the same color as when i caught him. their when thier molts come off, the old shell in white, so i guess that yes, their shells do turn white. hope this helps!

Actually I just tried to feed my larger cray's molt this morning...
It was the same color he was before molting...

I use tongs to feed both of my crays and the larger ones claws were hanging out from inside the clay pot he likes to hide in.
To my suprize he came out of a different clay pot to get his food...and the claws I was giving food to was his molt...Same color...
