Went to a LFS to get some pellets and I saw this baby datnoid, probably less than an inch. Labeled as a 6 bar datnoid. I was just captivated by his clean, perfect bars. I don't have the room for a dat, but I wanted to see how he will grow. Got him in a 30 gallon hospital/quarantine tank. Will most likely be selling him in a few months when he outgrows it. Are all baby dats this nice looking? Picture really doesn't do it justice because of the lack of contrast.

I wonder if that is a Sumatran?

No idea about datnoids, but according to this site, there is a picture of one with the same number of bars, looking very similar. The first picture, they call "plus one", says species is repisu.

Further research (old threads on MFK) tell me they grow extremely slow. I'd rehome my Oscar and grow this dat out if he keeps looking this sexy.

Yes,they grow large but are extremely slow growers. You will have quite a bit of time before your little indo outgrows, that tank.

Cool, guess I get to keep him for the forseeable future and see how he grows. Think I'll go pick up a 40 breeder at petco for him tomorrow. Should I keep him solo or throw in some community fish?

The dat looks pretty active so it does not really matter either way. They are solitary and don't interact with other fish unless they want to eat them.

The op's dim looking photos made the dat's color look different but yep....that is a silver dat alright.
