my bother bought a baby ferret i never wanted one i was always under the impression that they were stinky, dirty and nasty animals, of all the ones ive seen they were all mean. but i am in shock now on how much fun they are and how smart too but the stinky part stays lol not that bad though.. and now i really want one does anyone here have one do they get along with other ferrets and other pets?? also can they learn comands?? looked up the basic care and diet/heath on them. but i would like some first hand exp. more so then just from a artical or two also does it get hard finding certain colors like all white with black eyes??

I agree I would be interested in one if they didn't stink, would be intersted to see what people say. But I was told by a friend's relative who is a vet, that the smell is from a gland or something similar I don't remember exactly which and it can be removed... If that is true or not, Im not sure but if it is it definately makes the whole idea a lot more appealing.

They usually get along very well with other ferrets, and can get along well with other pets (dogs and cats) as long as they're supervised. You get used to the smell, and as long as you bath them and their bedding regularly, it really isn't too bad to deal with.

Ferrets are great pets. We had several growing up, and they were always a blast. If my fiance would put up with another pet, I'd probably have one right now.

As far as I know they don't really learn commands, but they do get attached to you and will seek you out for affection and interaction. Just make sure to check your laundry before you put it in the wash (or dryer) since they love to sleep in dirty clothes.

i currently have two...they are great...i've had many in the past and they played with dogs from chihuahua to newfoundland...and they love cats...and they absolutely can learn commands...just go to youtube and look up ferret tricks

I <3 ferrets I have two. The stinky part can be maintained. Marshall makes a daily spritz that helps make them smell more "acceptable" normal I don't like Marshall products but this stuff seems to work. Also less bath's the better. Everytime you bathe them their glands produce more oils to make up for the ones washed away which can make them smell more. Also changing the bedding and cleaning the litter box once a day helps too.

if you want a ferret you'll have to ferret prove your house they can get inside your couch and lots of other places. the smell is from their musk gland its the same as in skunks minks and other animals in that family. i doubt they would learn commands but given enough time they might

They are actually very smart animals. They can learn tricks like roll over and jump through hoops.

Very smart I have 2, one is very smelly and the other hardly smelly. I change/ wash their bedding twice a week (with a very mild detergent so it doesn't irritate their skin) that and keeping up with the litter box helps tremendously. When I first got them, I had a bit of a panic attack because of the smell (I like my house smelling like lemon bleach/ pine sol/ pledge), but as everyome said you get used to it. I don't really smell it anymore except when Frankie (the smelly one) lays in my cloths.

I adore them and so does my six year old. Frankie climbs up the bed to snuggle my sleeping son in the morning when I let them out, and Johnny makes it his goal to make me laugh. They are very smart and make great pets. Kind of a cross between a cat and a dog, they can learn commands but are not as obedient as a dog, half the time they do something (they are not supposed to do) on purpose to get my attention because life is just one big fun game for them. They are much more interactive than a grown cat, they want you to play with them like a puppy/ kitten would.

I could go on for pages but to sum it up if your looking for something small, less time consuming than a dog, and that will put a smile on your face they are an excellent addition to the household.

wow thanx guys for the info. :) how about letting them roam the house alone like a dog or cat my apt has no holes in the walls or any openings that one could get in to really i would really like to have one live like a cat in my home loose to walk about and hav a climbing area and even have a hanging hamack near my bed for them to sleep in is that possible cause i know these guys live to discover the one my brother has named skittles is very mushy when being held but when u put him down he will do a crazy dance like hes having seazures for a min then hes off all over the place and theres no controlling him or were he goes i dont mind him running around but its hard to get him to interact with you. he just goes off and does his own thing my dog loves him but he drive my dog crazy cuz he wont stick around to play ive never even seen my dog act like that ever and hes abt 13 now .
