okso not long ago i got a frontosa from a fella that had him in a very over crowded, undermaintained tank, i have a 220g S/A tank, so i adopted him, i know the ph and everything is off but its better than what once was home for the big guy. i got a call for the cam guy the other day saying "u forgot to take the little one."..i said little one? so i went back and he had another front thats about 1.5". i dont want to put this little guy in with the oscars yet , he'll be lunch. i have a 20g tall hospital tank , untill what size should i wait to introduce him into the big tank? :screwy: by the way the other front is doing exceptional compaired to what it was ive treated his battered fins and it eats and acts totally normal now.:headbang2

You will be holding on to him for a quite a while as frontosa's are very slow grows compared to other cichlids....and oscars.....and a 20 gal isnt big enough fo rhim for a long time.....maybe if you can section some of the tank off with egg crate withe others and not able to be eatin he would be fine......other than that...give him up to another member for the home he deserves...

id gladly give him to another member but... is the shipping worth it, i know im not gonna shell out the money...im working on setting up a 150 specifically for africans, so i can accomidate their needs better. im a little nervous putting him alone with a big front though...1.5" vs. aprox 7" will it work? or should i seperate that tank as well?

it would be wonderful if he could go into the big tank but i would not do it with oscars until he is bigger..just grow him out for awhile in the hospital tank.. sometimes they grow fast.. especially if they are males.. but most times they are slow growing..but this way you can get him eating good, and healthy.. and even sell him if you cannot add him to the tank..fronts are expensive and beautiful and i would not chance him just being eaten.. you were lucky you got them!!!:D

hey thanks red devil!!
yeah , i think im gonna grow him out in the little tank and then put him in a 150 with the other front i got from the guy. lie you said, it would be and absolute shame to see this fish get eaten or messed up. ill wait till hes at least like 2.5 " to transfer it to the big tank

good deal.. because you will love those beautiful fronts..:D

You can put a 1 inch baby front in with a 12 inch front and it will be fine... I have a wide variety of different sized fronts all in the same tank... But I agree with the others NO OSCARS! I don't care what size the oscar is... If you decide to put the front in the 220 I would make sure the divider is very secure. Also what are the specs of the 20g you have?

Grow him out in the 20G till he hits the 2inch mark..then he'll probably be safe in your bigger tank...they do grow slow but not too slow when they are still juvies..Front juvies grow about 4-5inches in a year and after that they grow about an inch a year..so within 3-4months the front would be ready..
