I caught 8 baby gars in a lake 3 days ago their about 2" long their not eating anything that i throw in the tank. Guppies are way to big for them and they arent touching bloodworms any idea to make them start eating, Should i stick the bloodworms or what should i be feeding them?

you should have left em where you found em!!

but since you allready have em i would try small crickets or other insects, blood worms if they will take them

but they probably wont eat anything for a coupl days!!

good luck

I will second this as they are Longnosed and these are not easy fish to raise if you are not already prepared to do so or have much experience in raising gar from fry.

Here is what you can expect:
You have eight now...one will eat all the others then you will have one that you can work with at a better size. Usually around 3 or 4 inches. from here they are easier to feed but will likely mangle themselves by smacking the glass of the tank if you are not careful. Keep them in nothing larger than a 5 gallon until the fish reaches at least the above 3 to 4 inches and then step the tank size very slowly. DO NOT put these fish with other fish.

Good luck

Bad Idea as they will all die as none will feed as they can not find food in such a tank. You can not feed gar of this size in a 55 gallon..These fish at this size are not for beginners and not easy. These fish need to be fed a lot and often. To refuse them food is to kill them to keep them together is to feed them to each other.

Cannibalism will happen and is going to happen unless one has the space and ability to work with these fish individually..

ok i bought some black worm yesterday threw them in the tank 3 of them seem to be eating them as the worms wave about in the sand.

I feed mine the smallest rosies that I could get and he ate 3 in one day after eating nothing for 3 days. Now he is eating everything he can fit in his mouth.

I keep it in a tank that has no glass for now to keep him from mangling himself on the glass.

I got my baby short nose to eat prawn i cut into long skinny strips shaped kinda like small fish then threaded it onto thin fishing line with no knot so it can easily slide off the line when grabbed, I put the prawn into the water and jiggled it in the water like it as fish or fishing lure, sure enough it took the bait quite fun too its like fishing in your tank.
