I have 2 - 2" baby Bagarius Yarrelli goonch catfish that i keep in a 150g tank with 4 baby Peacock bass and 3 baby Datnoids. This morning i found one of the goonch upside down on the floor of the tank, as soon as i touched him he took off, swam about 2 feet and fell back upside down. the question is what's wrong with him. I took him out of the tank and put him in a 2g to keep an eye on him. the temp in the big tank is about 80 F which i've heard is a bit warm for goonch but they've been eating (brine shrimp) and doing fine. but he just swims when i touch him then falls upside down and just sits there. it's almost like an air bubble problem but he doesnt look bloated or anything. any ideas on what's wrong or how to revive him? if it is a temp problem i dont want it to kill my other Goonch too.

(the quarantine tank he's in is unheated and about 72 F, i've been holding him up into the current to try to get oxygen through his gills, but he's breathing fine on his own... just cant swim straight)

any help would be greatly appreciated, Tahnks in advance

I heard that about keeping the temp lower on goonches. Im no expert on goonches but i wouldnt drop the temp from 80 F to 72 F just like that. Just my two cents. I might be totally wrong though.

goonch cats like cold waters, so lowering the temp slowly and increasing the water flow in the tank should keep your other one happy, as for your sick one, i have no clue whats wrong. maybe some pics?

i dont have a working camera at the moment, but he just lays on his back breathing normal and everything (i tip him rightside up every few minutes). ill be dropping the temp on my 150 to about 74 throughout the next day or two to accommodate both the bass and the other cat. kinda worried about the tipsy one tho.

A lot of "goonch" catfish that are sold are actually from the genus Glyptothorax, and not the genus Bagarius, which probably have a slightly different husbandry protocol. I would assume the problem you are describing is either swim bladder related or neurological in origin, but don't know what treatments would be beneficial. I hope he gets better!

ya i'm not exactly positive the genus yet as he's tiny...i might try to get my camera working to have a few of you tell me what i actually got
