hi folks,

Just picked up a new red tail giant Gourami (around 15cms) yesterday and it's taken a dislike towards my baby green aro. It keeps charging into him so i had to put him in a small tank by itself.
The rtgg came from a tank with many other fish and he seemed very harmless but as soon as i put him in my tank he went abit crazy.

Could it just be a case of him trying to settle in his new tank? I've seen alot of people keep these two fish together without much fuss and i've heard the giant gouramis are not overly aggressive.

Current tank is a 4footer, my new 6 footer is currently getting cycled. Water pars are all in check.

is that a Triad descendent in your avatar? Lol.. anyhow I think it could be that your green aro is too smalll..and may look like food.. how big is the green aro?

Better remove it. That Gourami grows FAST, faster than your green thats for sure. Could be eaten soon.

wait til green is 2x its size

in my experience with two ggs on separate periods. they are aggressive
even in the lfs they are noticeably aggressive

Thats not likely to happen unless you intentionally stunt the rtgg in a tiny tank hardly feeding it. Get rid of the rtgg and get a smaller one later on when your green is big enough to stand up for itself.

what i did was isolate the rtgg in a smaller tank and introduced him back into the green aro tank. As soon as he went back into the aro tank he would attack it again.
Someone suggested that i should get another fish roughly the same size so i bought a flagtail. This worked as the rtgg ignored the aro and started bullying the flagtail.
In the end i sold the rtgg.
Maybe when the other fish in the tank get bigger i will purchase another baby rtgg.
