I've wanted a baby short bodied GT for sometime. I love getting fish when they are small so I can watch them develop.

Anyway...found this little one yesterday at Captain Nemo's. They had him in a tank with a bunch of Fire Mouths that were chewing on his fins. Had to bring him/ or her home.

Not too sure about this guy----he just seems a bit of a derp. I have found that I have to shut off all the power to the tank and feed him flakes!. Even the mini cichlid food---he just rolls it around in his mouth and then spits it out. The only other thing he seems to eat are blood worms. Even then--if it floats by him---he won't chase it. Never had a fish do this----all my others attack the food with gusto. Not sure what is up with this guy.

He's still adjusting. I had my juvenile jack let NLS pellets literally roll on top of his head for days. He didn't start eating the pellets until 10 days later. Going on 3 weeks, he's learned to recognize me 10-15 feet away, and is much more active than the first week I had him.

Remember he's just a baby, and he was getting harrassed for who knows how long!

Thanks Swifty......I guess you're right...he is maybe 2". Saying he because its developing the hump on the forehead. Husband named him Shreck....said it is german for terror. Guess it's an irony thing.

The way my lounge chair is set up he can swim over and stare at me from the corner of the tank. Whenever I sit down he's right there. He surfs the glass quite a bit......much like a kid figuring out what his boundries are???

I know like another poster said it sometimes takes a few days for them to settle in. When buying from another owner I usually ask what they have been feeding them so that way I can have something they are already used to. Then transition them to the food I use.

He'll start taking food once he adjusts. When I moved my Hait to a new tank, he didn't eat for 2 weeks. And GTs are temperamental...my old GT used to go on hunger strikes every once in a while when he decided he didn't like what I did to his tank during a water change.

Also, I'd recommend soaking his food in an Epsom salt solution once he starts eating for a week. I always treat new GT's for IP's just as a precaution since they're so prone to it. And the Epsom salt soaked food treatment doesn't do any harm if they don't have IP's. it's really a win/win.

Good luck with him!

Here's another pic of him I'm a little worried about the kind of grey screen patches on top of his head it doesn't look like hole your head to me. Does it just look like part of it still pattern on where he is rubbing himself? The times I have him in right now is super clean I have an elephant nose in there and they are very sensitive to bad water.

Do the patches look like something I need to be worried about? I've never had a green Terra before so I'm really worrying about every little thing with him.

Found that I have to turn everything in the tank off so that he can really feed. I think everything was just whizzing by too fast for the little guy and he was getting confused. Also---any ideas on those patches on his head----kinda looks like a pattern now---not sure.
