Hi

Alla my dats IT are eating pellets but the new ones are very small baby IT and some can take pellts if I split in 2 but others ones dont test and dont look after the pellets when I feed them ..
What is the best way to trainig pellets feeding??
Starving them for a week? or wait for them to take pellt?
some are very starvd all ready :(

If they are looking emaciated, then feed them what they will eat and try again later. I starved mine for a couple of weeks and they finally starting taking them, but I have 3 tanks all with Dats. Only one tank was taking pellets. I recently moved one of the pellet trained Dats to the bigger tank with 3 other Dats. Eventually, the other 3 caught on and are taking pellets too now. Best thing to do with pellet training is to have fish that are already taking pellets and to "show" the untrained fish that it's edible.

its a fine line you tread when you starve them to get them onto other foods - imo its better to feed them what they eat till they have bulked up a bit and will be able to handle a starving period.

Starve them for a short while, then when you feed the pellet, maybe rub ( or even wrap ) it in tilapia or something they already take. You can also use garlic juice, will make the pellets smell stronger and more appealing to the dats.

Get some garlic guard and sinking baby size pellets. Mix it up and wait a few hours. The dats should try to eat the pellets because of the smell.
