he pros of the datnoid worlds!

im getting a bunch of baby IT's about 1"..
do i need to quarantine them like what i do with the NTTs?
are they sensitive to parasite meds such as coppersafe?

thanks:)

:popcorn:anybody??

It's never a bad idea to quarantine your fish, regardless of where you buy it. At that size they are most likely breed some where. I would just change water often, crank up the temps and give them lots of air. I tend not to medicate unless it's my last option.

I would. For some reason, I was just thinking the other day when I got some Indos awhile back and put them in a tank with Clown Loaches. All the Loaches died off within a week of the Dats being introduced. I can only assume at this point it was probably due to parasites or some type of disease the the Indos carried and were immune to.

i would definitely quarantine, and considering how small they are coming in at, might be weakened etc. If you want to treat prior to symptoms, I would use maybe only some prazi or other internal parasite med

guess i wont do the same.....gotta set up a qt tank...damn!

okay im defintely gonna QT them but at 1" and stressed from the transport, is it a good idea? or wait until they settle in then QT them? also, at this size, will coppersafe or prazipro hurt?

Good idea to QT them. I don't think Prazipro would hurt to add. And I'd just do a drip acclimation just to be safe.

its what i always do with my new fishes! hehehe!:D
anyways, prazipro? ive tried this with baby piranhas and didnt hurt.
ive used coppersafe with my other dats before but not this small.
im really scared to use meds at dats this small.

Use whatever you're comfortable with. I've only used Prazipro myself, but it was for my Bichirs when I had an outbreak of anchor worms. With babies, I would probably only use half the recommended dosage though.
