i saw some today but not sure how many to get. my goal is a breeding pair . wanted to know if there is indicators on best color and m/f at 1 inch is it impossable? some were much darker then others. any help would be great thanks.

At 1", it's pretty much impossible to sex them or know what they'll look like. You could start with about 8 or so and grow them out until a couple pair up. Most likely they're all siblings from the same spawn so if it's important not to have imbreeding, you might want to try to get some from different sources.
