My babies are now free swimming have been for 3 day snow what should I feed them I have them in a 30g with the water half way to the top.

crushed pellets good, crushed flakes, crushed hard boiled egg yokes to, is the brood tank seeded? good seeded tank with algae great for fry.
 
curious why you removed from the tank so soon. jags good parents and can stay there for up to 6 weeks, I pull my JD fry at 4 to 5. unless you have other fish in tank eat them.
 
They bred in a comm tank and they were moving them round the hole tank lost a few, so I netted some out done a slight water change and left around 20 in the tank with the parents.

surprised jags not killed or maimed everything. good seeded tank with algae or a bare bottom both good. I like a seeded, algae ridden tank and gravel. clean water of course, bare bottom good but have to clean it allot more and stay on top of feeding more.
 
my nursery tank got around 30 JD fry in it ATM, they about 7 weeks old and about 1/8" to 1/4" , they are just now becoming aware of feeding time and there surrounding. interesting thing to watch happen.
