Hello Everybody!
I just purchased my first Jardini! Im very excited with my new little guy! My first question was what do you all recommend as a good staple food? Secondly how big could these guys get? Any other helpful points and thoughts are highly welcomed. Thanks alot!:)

Hi..Welcome to MFK.. U could feed him market shrimp and arowna pellets.. I've forgotten how big these guys grow to.. I think 29-30".. not sure.. Any pix ?

when i had my baby jar at about 1"-1.5" i was feeding him black worms and hikari food sticks broken in half. then he got stopped eating the food sticks for a while and only wanted live. trained him back onto the food sticks and feed with krill now. you can feed your jar almost anything if you can train him to take dry. they will eat market prawn, any kinds of worms, fish pieces, dry, feeders, beef heart, mice, etc.

they get up to 24"

---Well as a diet, feed it pellets/freeze dried shrimp/krill, frozen shrimp/krill.
---Crickets/Superworms/Cockaroaches as treats(really addicting if fed steadily)
---As they get older like in the 15"+ Silversides/Smelts/Prawns with a bunch of pellets shoved in there if he doesn't take them anymore.

Good luck, remember don't get him addicted to just one thing.

Hey welcome to the club! I've only had my jar for about six months now and he's by my favorite fish I've ever owned. His staple diet is Omega One Cichlid Pellet, after he got over his intial shyness (at about 4") he started taking pellets readily. He's pushing a foot now and begs at the lid when I approach the tank.

As far as tankmates...I have him with a 10" JD, a 12" Red Snook, a 12" pangasius, and a 14" Seperata Aor. There haven't been any problems yet....I attribute this to keeping him with most of them since he was tiny. Of course your experience may vary...:)

I just got my little jar today, and it's already a vicious little snot at a whopping 2 inches. Hopefully I can get it on pellets and mellow it down. Turns out the LFS was feeding it feeders. Good luck with yours.

it all depends on how quick u want it to grow...i feed mine feeders and it went from 5" to 17" in 9 months....there an agro yet sumwhat skittish fish...low lighting and thick cover glass is crucial...at the end of the day dude it's ur decision! Good Luck!
