My four year old silver arowana jumped through the plexi glass tank top to my 360 gallon tank a couple months ago and I finally replaced the tops with larger plexi glass covers. Looking for a replacement arowana, I went to Connie's aqaurium (central California) they had six baby Liechardti arowanas that mostly looked in good condition. As being the only legal species I had not had the opportunity to work with I purchased one.
First I noticed this species is alot longer in appearance than Jardini Australian Arowana's and my leichardti max's out at about 4- 4.5 inches long. As well he's feeding habits are awesome for such a young fish, he loves fish pellet and I've only had him for one day. I'm looking forward to working with this baby Leichardti.

That's the one theirs one in Castro Valley and another shop in Oakland that I'm aware of.

congrats. i too am in possession of my first lei. i think the longer look can be attributed to the lack of a spoon head and a body that is not as deep as a jardini. the color on the leis are much nicer. perhaps i just became bored with the jardini's bronze/olive coloration. its good to hear your lei is eating well. i had a hard time getting mine to eat. good luck and keep us posted.

gratz any pictures?i like rich's lei =D purplish scales

This Leichardti is great, I've only had this fish for four days and he has a great appetite and is eating pellets and guppies without hesitation and is showing interest in thawed frozen prawn chunks. He is in a in a 100 gallon for now as a rearing tank and has a baby Silver Arowana as a Tankmate and the have not been fighting. The tank is in my room and I'm going to continue to moniter these two for excessive agression. I've noticed that unlike the Jardini Arowana's that have a golden coloration the Leichardti Arowana scales have got a blueish scale coloration. Does anyone know if the bluish coloration (similar to blue base golden arowana) stay present in the adult scale coloration?

cool please post some pics.
Alex
