I’m currently keeping my 3 inch protopterus dolloi in a 20g long but was toying with the idea of moving him into a 75g with some rainbow fish and maybe some bumblebee cats in the next couple weeks. I realize that sooner or later the rainbow fish will become a pretty snack but I’m wondering if it will be a problem for such a little guy to come up for air in such a large tank. Think he’s too small?

I toyed with the idea of turning the 75 into a jaguar cichlid tank but I’m thinking it may be more prudent to focus on one monster at a time. I’d love to give the lung more space, but I’m not sure he’s ready for the move. Advice is always appreciated.

is there really the potential for rainbow fish to nibble on him? I'm not being confrontational, I really just don't know. I was thinking that the strain of him having to go such a distance for air would be the deal breaker.

My working plan is for him to be *the* centerpiece and whatever I would add would merely provide some incidental color and movement. Perhaps if I went for some kind of smaller schooling tetra?

I would wait untill the other fish were larger. But he will manage to get air. Remember to watch out for aggressiveness.

I would keep an eye on those rainbows

I lost a 4" oscar to a shoal of 3 2-3" rainbows

they are surprisingly nasty

hm, perhaps I'll go back to the drawing board in regards to stocking with the lungfish.

I thought I'd bump this thread rather than make a new one. My 75g arrived today and once i get it cleaned up I'll start the process of getting it set up for my lungfish. I'm still looking for stocking suggestions for the tank, though.

I'm still playing with the idea of a rainbow fish school and possibly a clown loach school, but any other suggestions would be appreciated. Again, I know tank mates won't work out in the long run.

i still think rainbows will go for him

if its only temporary put him with some top feeders or large slow fish

better safe than sorry. I'll take your advice and look for something else. Thanks!
