Recently my girlfriend has gotten her first baby map turtle, it must be no more then an inch and a half. She has a 20 gallon for it with a turtle dock etc. She has had the turtle for 2 days now and she is quite worried about a few things and I'm wondering if you guys could help me with a few questions since i know absolutely nothing about turtles and am having a hard time finding specific information.
She says the turtle sleeps at night with the nictitating membrane covering his eye but you can clearly see his pupil and eye ball. His main eye lid is not closed just the membrane so you can clearly see his eyes. Is this normal????
He opens his eyes when he is moving around normally. She is also worried that his eyes are completely open when he swims, I have no idea nor does she know whether or not the membrane is supposed to be closed. As i can tell there is no unusual puss or whiteness anywhere around his eyes. He has yet to start eating, she has pellets and turtle treat (dried shrimp mix i guess) for it, should she be feeding it something else? He doesnt spend too much time in the water and most of his time on land, he hasn't stayed under water for very long at all. any and all help willl be appreciated thanks alot.

the first photo of it, it is resting with its mebrane up possibly sleeping.

I'm just adding to the info above, because its my turtle: this turtle keeps his eyes open all night; instead of shutting them completely it uses its protective membrane instead, which is not normal. I have given him a warm soak bath to try to get rid of anything that could be stuck in his eyes/eye lid and he blinked several times, only to reveal the nicitating membrane instead of the whole lid shutting. All i know is that this is not normal and i do not know what i could do myself besides seeking out a vet. Any information would be great.

That's normal my map sleeps just with its membrane shut too sometimes

I think it's so they can still se movement as ours will wake if you get near to his tank but ignore you if your the other side of the room
