S1790001.JPGS1790002.JPGHere are some pictures. Ever since I got him on these Aqueon cichlid color enhancing pellets he started to develop a hunch. He also hunches to help him swallow things too so idk if it's a malnutricion thing or if it's because the pellets are too small and hard to swallow or something. I've seen pictures of large footlongers with a hump too so idk what causes it. I just switched him today on some type of cichlid sticks to see if there's a difference. Thanks!

Hard to say, he almost looks like a shortbody lol.

Did this just randomly pop up one day? I suspect he may have spooked into the side of the tank and injured his spine. Could you post a pic from a side view?

I'll try getting a side pic tomorrow. He isn't very skittish and hand feeds when he's hungry. He all of sudden got it when he started eating tiny 3mm pellets. He sometimes has to bend his back backwards to get them down, and I suspect he does that too much which caused it?? I'm pretty sure he didn't hit the wall very hard. The walls are heavily covered by algae on three sides so that probably stops him or makes him feel more secure I think. What do you suggest I do if it was indeed him hitting the wall too hard?

It looks like it bent it's spine or back when it freak out. It must of slam into the glass. It's either that or a birth defect which i doubt.

I don't think i'll heal 100%. It could when it starts growing though.

how big is the tank? Maybe add current can discourage this activity. I don't think it's from the feeding.

It's a grow out ten gallon. There isn't much room, so I'm suprised that if he did ram into the side he would need more space to build up more momentum (I read that in the gar section stickies). Also Odoes dont like current, so I think adding current will do more harm. I'll work on getting pics later today.

I saw another thread on here where someone had the same problem. Unfortunately it got bad enough where he had to euthanize it

I hope he continues to do well for you but I'd also say it looks like he hit the glass. I completely disagree with that nonsense in the gar forum about how it's better to keep gar in small tanks so they don't break their back. I've owned several gar and now odoe and they do great in large tanks. The only issues I've ever heard of with hitting the glass is from keeping them too cramped.
