I have 3, 1inch RBP in a 20 gallon tank with an AQ70 on it for better filtration. Been feeding the guys 2 twice a day on raw squid. just wondering is there any extra care for these little guys. i know the tank is tiny moving them in a 55 in late may to better suit them. i am feeding them with long aquatic tongs with the squid on the end. they aren't scared at all the eat right off of it, is this ok?

i would be feeding them small pieces of shrimp, krill, silversides, tilapia, some bloodworms, and a good quality flake food. now is the time to get them eating whatever you want them to eat in the future, as they get bigger, they will become much more stubborn when it comes to new foods. you are really going to want to get them on pellets in the future, so you can also try dropping a couple pellets in there, they may be too small to eat them right now, but they can pick at them and get a taste for them now, just make sure you pull out whatever they don't eat after a bit so you don't foul up the water.

i would also suggest getting that 55 gallon ready pretty quick, if they are an inch long right now, you can expect them to be around three inches by the end of may, so the sooner you get them into a bigger tank, the better.

just make sure you keep your temps around 80f, keep up with weekly waterchanges, and make sure you keep a close eye on the little guys and you should be just fine. if you have any other specific questions, be sure to ask.

thanks guys i really appreciate the help EXTREMELY informative! im in college so money is tight but i have been on craigs list daily trying to catch a steal off there. im just moving into a new apt in may so i would be very difficult to set up the 55 in the place now then move it in an month or so not to mention, i think it would add a lot of stress on the RBP's all that moving around.

the flakes might be tough, because i rarely see them ever go to close to the surface. but i do feed them the squid with the tongs so maybe when the get more accustomed i can trying using the tongs with the meat pellets.

is squid ok for them or should i just make sure to change up the diet? and is feeding twice a day or should i limit it to one. when i do feed them i only keep it in for a couple minutes and make sure all food is out. i learned that the hard way before.

squid should be alright, but it is important to feed a varied diet. the flakes should eventually start to sink, especially when the flow from your filter hits them, and when that happens, they should see them and start making their way more to the surface, the same goes for pellets. feeding twice a day is fine, just make sure you aren't overfeeding so that you have a bunch of extra food laying around rotting in your tank.

as long as you know you're going to be upgrading soon, they should be fine in that tank for a bit. if you notice any increase in aggression, you can just turn the temp down a bit. other than that, everything should be fine, just make sure you cycle the new tank before you throw them in there.
