I was just wondering how many days can my baby red bellies not eat? I started to get green water on my 4th day of my new tank with my baby RBP's. Now I want to get rid of this green water by covering the tank and not feeding them? What do you guys think? Not feed them or just feed bloodworms once a day?

Are you water levels all good?
I had the green water before also in a cichlid tank, an I just did 15% water changes. An kept the over feeding taken care of.

I got 4 juvi rbp's the biggest are 2 inches an littlest are 1-1/2. I am a new owner also, but ive learned a bit about my fish in just a few weeks. I switch up there foods during the week. So they always arnt eating same thing. They seem to be growing very very quickly.

Heres my feeding chart, depending on food.
Brine shrimp - I feed them once daily
Worms( little knightcrawlers) - I usally feed them every other day. They wont ever stop eating them.
Pellets - I feed them every other day also because its the only way I can get them to eat them.
Feeders - I usally throw in a few live feeders two at a time till they stop eating them an let them live. If the feeder is alive in 10 mins he gets removed from my tank. ( I got a feeder tank.)

I also feed my P's Chicken hearts once in awhile. Not everyone agree's with this. They love them though. Rarely any fat, but not natural for them.

Just my opinion an advice. Im very bored an needed to ramble lol. Maybe some of it will help you out.

It's actually good help. I have only had these little guys for 5 days and they are I guess the same size as yours. an inch or an inch and a half. I will do almost the same feeding as yours. I have bloodworms though instead of nightcrawlers. I would also probably try beef heart as most people have said. As for brine shrimp do you give them live or the frozen ones in cubes?

i really would suggest not feeding baby p's they will probally canabilize each other just cover the tank and lift the cover to feed them try feeding them less:D

I feed them freeze dried atm. An soak them in a bit of garlic an squeek them a bit so they sink. Next time im getting frozen. I just dont wanna waist the freeze dried I bought.

You do know piranha are illegal in cali? Might wanna keep that on the low! I'm sure there's a hefty fine!n probably per fish! Not that I mind their legal in my state.

There pretty much everywhere, thats what I notice. Especially on ads. Every now & then I see people selling babies and full growns. But yes I am aware that they are illegal in CA.
